Current News

Our Longview and Area Seniors are an ambitious visionary group who's aim is to make being a senior something to look forward to and enjoy with their peers. Since their inception in 2015 they have instituted twice weekly games get nights and afternoons at Longview Hall, successfully secured funding to upgrade the kitchen in the hall, purchase a large double fridge and also a freezer to enhance their Meals on Wheels Program that they manage and planning many get togethers for the group like touring Christmas lights, camping trip, Pot Lucks, pancake dinners, Stage West and even Ann of Green Gables at the Windmill Dinner Theater. It is no easy feat getting our members out to these functions and the bus rentals have been very costly. We have also watched as community members who were no longer mobile have had to leave our community due to lack of public transportation both for getting groceries and to appointments. One senior relayed that it costs her $150.00 for cab fare every time she needs to go to Calgary for a Doctors appointment. As the Board assessed these challenges it became apparent that we need a wheelchair accessible bus to meet these needs! As a result of these determinations the Board has assumed the challenge of raising $100,000.00 to purchase a 22 passenger bus with a wheelchair accessible spot as well. We are applying for a Casino which we project would supply operating and maintenance costs for at least 20 years. We have chosen to show our progress by filling in puzzle pieces of the bus as we raise each $5000.00. We are proud to say we already have raised $85,000.00. The sign is hanging on the wall at Longview Community hall.
If you would like to contribute please contact a Board member or look for our change boxes in local venues.
